About Table Tales
Hamburg Already Has Enough Recommendation Platforms. So Why Another One? Fair question.
After all, there are already countless platforms for restaurant, bar, and café recommendations. Google Maps, Tripadvisor, Yelp, TikTok, Instagram — everywhere you look, there are lists, rankings, and thousands of reviews.
And yet, most people probably know this feeling:
You want to spontaneously find a great restaurant, discover a cozy café, or try a new bar — and somehow end up spending more time searching than actually enjoying the experience.
That’s exactly where Table Tales came from.
Not as a competitor to the big platforms, but rather as an alternative to them.
Curated Instead of Endless Lists
Table Tales is a private Hamburg-based food project created by foodies, for foodies.
The goal is not to collect as many locations as possible or publish every new opening within minutes. Instead, Table Tales focuses on places that were actually visited, tested, and consciously selected.
No paid placements.
No sponsored rankings.
No ads between recommendations.
Just restaurants, bars, and cafés that we genuinely enjoy and want to share with others.
Most importantly, Table Tales is designed to feel inspiring, personal, and easy to use — more like a friend sharing favorite hidden gems than a giant business directory with thousands of entries.
From a Personal Spreadsheet to an Independent Platform
The idea behind Table Tales started in a surprisingly simple way:
with a private list of restaurant recommendations.
Over the years, more and more suggestions from friends, colleagues, and personal discoveries around Hamburg found their way into that list. Eventually, it became so long and chaotic that one question naturally emerged:
Why not turn this into a platform that helps others discover exciting places in Hamburg as well?
What initially started as a small side project slowly evolved into something much bigger.
Today, Table Tales is no longer just a simple list — it has grown into a fully custom-built platform featuring:
- advanced filters for different preferences and situations
- modern location detail pages
- automatic opening-hours updates
- wishlists and save functions
- light & dark mode
- full bilingual support in German and English
- optimized mobile navigation
- a modern technical foundation built for future expansion
The current relaunch was largely developed as a personal vibecoding project from scratch. Not because it was the easiest approach — but because it allowed the freedom to build Table Tales exactly the way it was envisioned.
Why Put So Much Effort Into It?
Because good recommendations matter more than ever.
Hamburg has an incredible food scene — from small family-run restaurants to hidden cafés, creative concepts, and unique bars that many people would otherwise never discover.
And those places deserve visibility.
At the same time, Table Tales has also become a creative and technical playground:
a space to experiment with new ideas, features, and concepts. From design and user experience to modern web technologies, an enormous amount of passion goes into this project.
In short:
Table Tales combines two things we truly love — great food and great digital experiences.
What’s Next?
Even after the relaunch, Table Tales is still far from “finished.”
In fact, many new features and ideas are already in development. Upcoming additions include:
- a dedicated event calendar for food festivals and culinary events
- new guided tours
- smarter filtering and discovery features
- even more handpicked locations
- additional personal stories, recommendations, and background insights
Table Tales will continue to evolve step by step, week by week.
Since the entire project is created privately alongside everyday life and work, some things may take a little longer. But in return, every feature and recommendation is built with genuine passion rather than rushed for growth.
Free. Independent. Passion-Driven.
Table Tales is free to use and intentionally ad-free.
The project is built independently, without investors or commercial interests. Of course, a platform like this still comes with ongoing costs and a significant amount of time investment — from servers and development to content creation and maintenance.
But as long as people continue discovering new favorite places through Table Tales, it’s all worth it.
And maybe you’ll discover your next favorite spot in Hamburg today 🙂
