Since 2015, owner and head chef Elsa Hartmann, who was born in Asmara, Eritrea, has welcomed guests with a warmth and generosity that are frequently praised by locals and first-time visitors alike. From the moment you step inside, it becomes clear that hospitality is just as important here as the food itself. The atmosphere is relaxed, personal, and refreshingly unpretentious. It’s not uncommon for guests to strike up conversations with one another while Elsa moves through the dining room, sharing stories, answering questions, and introducing diners to the traditions behind her cuisine.

At the heart of Elsa’s menu is Eritrean cooking, deeply connected to the culinary traditions of Northeast Africa. Many dishes are served on Injera, the region’s signature sourdough flatbread made from teff flour, which functions as both plate and utensil. Various stews, vegetables, and richly seasoned sauces are arranged on top and traditionally enjoyed by hand. The restaurant’s evening buffet is particularly popular, offering a colorful and diverse selection of hot and cold dishes. The spread ranges from lentil and chickpea specialties to aromatic vegetable stews, slow-cooked beef dishes, and spicy chicken preparations.
