La Casita

Restaurant Mexican St. Pauli

About this location

Right on Lattenplatz, directly opposite Feldstraße subway station and just steps away from the legendary Knust music venue, you’ll find one of Hamburg’s smallest – and most beloved – street food spots. Housed in a former brick gatekeeper’s hut, La Casita is easy to miss at first glance. Yet around lunchtime, on sunny afternoons, or before a concert, a line often forms in front of its tiny serving window. There’s hardly any indoor seating, and that’s entirely intentional. Guests typically enjoy their food outside on benches, steps, or simply standing in the square. With a cold beer in hand and the energy of St. Pauli, the Karoviertel, and Sternschanze all around, the atmosphere feels effortlessly urban, lively, and authentic.

Behind La Casita are friends Ernesto Camarillo and Juan Carlos Hahn, whose mission has always been to bring genuine Latin American street food to Hamburg. The undisputed stars of the menu are the tacos, served on soft corn tortillas and topped with fresh onions, cilantro, radishes, guacamole, and lime. Crowd favorites include the slow-braised Suadero beef, traditional Carnitas, flavorful chicken, and a remarkably convincing vegan alternative. The menu also features generously filled quesadillas served with homemade Salsa Macha, freshly baked empanadas, and hearty bowls with rice, beans, corn, and a variety of house-made salsas. Seasonal specials such as octopus or brisket regularly make an appearance, giving returning guests something new to discover.

Over the years, La Casita has earned a reputation as one of Hamburg’s most authentic taco destinations and is frequently praised by food critics and local street food enthusiasts alike. Not only do guests rave about the freshness and quality of the ingredients, but also about the warm and welcoming service provided by the team. During busy periods, especially in good weather or around events nearby, a short wait at the window is not uncommon. But that wait is very much part of the experience. We’re convinced that the combination of honest street food, genuine passion, and the unique setting of Lattenplatz makes La Casita one of Hamburg’s most memorable culinary hotspots.
