Mezedes bei Alexandros on Großneumarkt is exactly the kind of restaurant where an evening naturally becomes more social — and usually much longer — than originally planned. We’ve spent several team events and group dinners here over the years because the concept simply works perfectly for larger gatherings. Instead of everyone studying menus or debating what to order, the evening starts immediately with a large wooden platter filled with Greek mezedes. Five different small dishes arrive at once, accompanied by bread, tzatziki, and salad — and as soon as the plates are halfway finished, the next five dishes appear almost instantly. What always impressed us most is that even after many rounds, the selection rarely repeats itself. Whether vegetarian, seafood-based, or meat-heavy, there has always been something for everyone at the table.

The food combines classic Greek cuisine with a modern mezedes concept built entirely around sharing and eating together. From grilled octopus and spicy salsiccia to creamy dips, fresh fish dishes, and tender lamb, new plates constantly keep arriving at the table. Not only is the variety impressive, but also the ingredient quality and the wonderfully uncomplicated way the entire experience unfolds. Especially in larger groups, the restaurant naturally creates a lively, energetic atmosphere where conversation and food continuously flow together. Greek wine or a good ouzo fit perfectly into that experience.

Located directly on Großneumarkt, just a short walk from Hamburg’s famous St. Michael’s Church (“Michel”), Mezedes bei Alexandros has long become one of Neustadt’s standout dining spots. In summer especially, sitting outside on the square creates an atmosphere that almost feels like a small Mediterranean piazza in the middle of Hamburg. Inside, rustic wood meets urban coziness and a warm, lively energy. We’re convinced that this combination of genuine hospitality, endless rounds of new dishes, and Mediterranean-style togetherness is exactly why hardly anyone ever leaves after “just a quick dinner.”
