The various kabab specialties from the open grill are particularly popular, especially the lamb shashlik dramatically served on a sword skewer. Alongside them come traditional dishes like Mantu and Ashak — delicate Afghan dumplings filled with savory ingredients and topped with chickpea tomato sauce and yogurt. The national dish, Qabeli Palau, featuring fragrant saffron rice with caramelized carrots, raisins, and tender lamb, is another absolute highlight of the menu. Not only do the meat dishes impress, but vegetarian specialties like Boranee Bandjan also demonstrate the incredible depth and warmth of Afghan cooking.

Since opening only a few years ago, Bamiyan has quickly become one of Hamburg’s most exciting destinations for Afghan cuisine and now regularly appears on local “best of” restaurant lists. Its location directly next to Wandsbeker Chaussee station also makes it especially easy to reach. Particularly during evenings and weekends, reservations are highly recommended because the restaurant is often fully booked. We’re convinced that Bamiyan has become so beloved because it combines extraordinary atmosphere, genuine hospitality, and an often underestimated cuisine in a truly remarkable way.
