Restaurant Suliko

Restaurant Georgian Rotherbaum

About this location

Located on Mittelweg in the heart of Rotherbaum, Suliko is a true institution in Hamburg’s dining scene. As the city’s very first Georgian restaurant, it introduced many locals to the rich culinary traditions of the Caucasus and remains one of the most authentic destinations for Georgian cuisine in Hamburg today. From the moment you step inside, it becomes clear that tradition and hospitality are at the heart of the experience. Warm wooden interiors, traditional décor, and a welcoming atmosphere create the feeling of dining in a family-run guesthouse in Tbilisi rather than a restaurant in the middle of Hamburg. The team is known for taking the time to guide guests through Georgian food culture, explaining traditional dishes, wines, and even the customs that surround them.

The menu showcases some of Georgia’s most iconic specialties. One of the undisputed highlights is Khachapuri, the country’s famous cheese-filled bread, with the Adjarian-style version—topped with butter and egg—being a particular favorite. Equally essential are Khinkali, large hand-folded dumplings filled with seasoned meat and flavorful broth that are enjoyed according to a traditional eating ritual. To start, many guests opt for Pkhali, a colorful selection of vegetable and walnut pâtés flavored with herbs, garlic, and pomegranate seeds. The menu also features hearty classics such as Chkmeruli, crispy chicken baked in a rich garlic cream sauce, Chakapuli, a slow-cooked meat stew infused with tarragon and white wine, and Mtsvadi, traditional Georgian grilled skewers served with the country’s distinctive Satsebela tomato sauce.

No visit to Suliko would be complete without exploring Georgia’s remarkable wine culture. Widely regarded as the birthplace of winemaking, Georgia boasts more than 8,000 years of wine history, and Suliko offers an excellent introduction to its indigenous grape varieties and traditional Qvevri wines. Popular choices include the bold red Saperavi and the semi-sweet Kindzmarauli, both of which pair beautifully with the cuisine. Combined with the restaurant’s genuine hospitality, authentic flavors, and relaxed atmosphere, the experience feels far more immersive than a typical dinner out. We’re convinced that this unique blend of culinary tradition, outstanding wines, and heartfelt service is exactly what has made Suliko one of Hamburg’s most beloved dining destinations for so many years.
