Samui Thai Cuisine
About this location
Anyone entering Samui Thai Cuisine for the first time probably doesn’t expect to step out of the busy area around Hamburger Straße station and suddenly feel transported somewhere entirely different. Between dark wood, golden details, and carefully designed interiors, the restaurant feels more like an elegant boutique hotel in Bangkok or on Koh Samui than a restaurant in the middle of Hamburg. One of our favorite details is the traditional seating concept: guests dine at low tables in a horigotatsu-style setup, but with a cleverly recessed space underneath so your legs can hang comfortably. It creates an authentic and cozy atmosphere without forcing anyone into an uncomfortable cross-legged position for hours — perfect for long evenings where only the food, not your feet, should put you to sleep.
Culinarily, Samui is one of the most authentic Thai restaurants in Hamburg in our opinion. The dishes balance heat, sweetness, acidity, and saltiness with remarkable precision while still feeling refined and deeply flavorful. The restaurant is especially famous for its crispy duck, often served in red curry with lychees and pineapple, though classics like Pad Thai or creamy Massaman curry are equally impressive. Not only does the food stand out in terms of flavor, but also in presentation: many dishes arrive beautifully arranged, showing how much attention is paid to every detail. And if a dish is marked “spicy,” they genuinely mean authentic Thai spice levels.
Despite its location near the busy Hamburger Straße area, Samui feels surprisingly calm and almost completely removed from the noise outside. The attentive yet understated service and elegant atmosphere make it especially popular for long dinners and special occasions. It’s no surprise to us that the restaurant regularly receives the official “Thai Select” certification, awarded to restaurants representing authentic Thai cuisine at a high level worldwide. We’re convinced that Samui is the kind of place you visit when you don’t just want to eat Thai food, but truly experience it — authentic, atmospheric, and with just the right touch of luxury.
