The concept is as simple as it is brilliant: good French bistro cooking, served quickly, at prices that make you look twice. The signature dish is steak frites for a jaw-dropping €15. Add to that classics like French onion soup and tarte tatin, all inspired by the no-frills Parisian “bouillons” of the 19th century – the workers’ restaurants where you could eat well without breaking the bank.

Café L’Artisan – A Slice of Paris on Eppendorfer Weg
Something smells suspiciously French in Hoheluft these days. Café L’Artisan has opened on Eppendorfer Weg – Hamburg’s very own “Little Notting Hill” – and it means serious business when it comes to French baking. Flour and butter are sourced directly from France, everything is kneaded by hand, and you can watch the whole process unfold through a glass-fronted bakery.
The menu has it all: classic baguettes, delicate little tarts, quiches, macarons, pralines and éclairs. Behind the counter are Bahar Golsheh and Erdal Süzer, two familiar faces from Hamburg’s patisserie scene who’ve finally opened their own spot.

Two Alphas – European-Asian Fusion on Bellealliancestraße
Small but mighty: Two Alphas has just opened and already makes an impression before you’ve even walked in – bold blue and fresh pink welcome guests into what is a surprisingly cosy space with room for just 15 diners.
What lands on the table is just as striking: European and Asian flavours woven together cleverly, served bites-style so you can work your way across the whole menu. For everyone who always wants to try everything – and with cooking this creative, that’s very much the right call.
One for those who like to be ahead of the curve.

Illeta Mallorqui – Mallorca Meets the Elbe Riverbank
Sun, sea breeze, salt air – and all of it in Hamburg? With Illeta Mallorqui opening at Övelgönner Elbstrand, that’s now entirely possible. The restaurant looks out over passing harbour cranes and serves up genuine Mallorcan flavours: fresh fish, homemade specialities and wines from carefully selected island wineries.
The concept takes its name and inspiration from a restaurant perched on a rock in the sea near Camp de Mar on Mallorca – one of the most romantic dining spots on the Balearic Islands. It sounds like a holiday? It feels like one too. And all without the flight, the check-in queue or the baggage fees.
Perfect for long summer evenings along the Elbe with a glass of wine in hand.

Box Coffee – Nine Square Metres of Pure Caffeine
Coffee lovers in Hoheluft, take note: Box Coffee on Hegestraße proves you don’t need a lot of space to make a big impression. Squeezed into just nine square metres, this tiny spot serves seriously good coffee to go – order ahead via app with a skip-the-line option so your morning stays on track.
Grilled sandwiches round out the offering for those who need a little something alongside their flat white. The opening saw huge demand, and by all accounts the team handled it without breaking a sweat. Their motto: Drink outside the box.

Pastorale – Plant-Based Fine Dining Next to a Church
Unusual setting, exceptional food: Pastorale has opened right next to the Stellingen church, and it’s running a dual identity that works surprisingly well. During the day it’s a relaxed café with coffee, cake and an Italian lunch menu; come evening, it transforms into a multi-course fine dining experience dedicated entirely to plant-based cooking – wine pairing available, naturally.
The concept blends lightness with ambition, and is aimed squarely at anyone who doesn’t think fine dining needs to involve meat. It’s a calm, almost meditative kind of place – fitting, given the neighbourhood.
