Table Tales Is Back – Bigger Than Ever

After months of work, it’s finally done: the new Table Tales is live! 🎉

Some of you may have noticed that things had become unusually quiet on Table Tales over the past few months. New restaurant, bar, and café recommendations appeared less frequently, social media became quieter, and overall it may have seemed like the project had slowed down.

In reality, the exact opposite was happening.

Behind the scenes, I’ve been working intensively on a complete relaunch — not just a small redesign, but a fundamental rebuild of Table Tales from the ground up.

Why a Relaunch?

Over the years, the old version of Table Tales had continued to grow far beyond what it was originally built for. What started as a small passion project slowly evolved into something much bigger than just a simple collection of restaurant recommendations.

At the same time, the technical foundation increasingly reached its limits.

Without getting too deep into technical details: the old version relied on a purchased toolset that was neither particularly flexible nor truly future-proof. Many features, ideas, and design concepts I had in mind for Table Tales were either extremely difficult — or simply impossible — to implement.

At some point, the decision became obvious: if Table Tales was ever going to become the platform I envisioned, it needed to be rebuilt completely.

And that’s exactly what happened.

The relaunch turned into a true vibecoding project — completely reimagined, redesigned, and largely custom-built from scratch. It took an incredible amount of time, but it also created the opportunity to finally shape Table Tales into what I had wanted it to become for a long time.

What’s New?

The new Table Tales still feels familiar, but it’s now significantly cleaner, faster, and more modern.

Some of the biggest new features include:

• 🌍 Bilingual support: Table Tales is now fully available in both German and English — something many people had requested.
• 🌙 Light & Dark Mode: Because searching for restaurants and bars late at night should be easier on the eyes.
• 📱 New mobile navigation: Smartphones now feature a comfortable thumb-friendly bottom navigation bar for quick access to the most important sections.
• ⚡ Improved performance: The entire platform has been rebuilt with a modern technical foundation and is now noticeably faster.
• 🕒 Automatic opening hours updates: To keep information more accurate, opening hours are now updated automatically every few days — because they tended to change faster than I could realistically maintain them manually.

A lot of smaller details were improved as well: cleaner layouts, better readability, redesigned location pages, new filtering options, and an overall smoother user experience.

And This Is Only the Beginning

The relaunch doesn’t mean Table Tales is “finished” — in many ways, this is just the beginning of its next chapter.

As some of you may have already noticed in the menu, a dedicated event calendar for food festivals, street food events, and culinary happenings in Hamburg is coming soon. I’m also currently working on new guided tours — though I’ll share more about those very soon. 👀

Existing features will continue to evolve as well. The filtering system, for example, is already planned to become much smarter and more powerful over the coming months.

In short: Table Tales isn’t just becoming “new” — it’s continuing to grow.

What Table Tales Is Supposed to Be

Despite all the new features, the core idea behind Table Tales remains exactly the same as it was on day one:

Helping people discover exciting restaurants, bars, and cafés in a fast, curated, and personal way.

Table Tales is intentionally not trying to compete with Google Maps, Yelp, or Tripadvisor. Those platforms already contain almost everything. Instead, Table Tales is supposed to feel more like a friend sharing their favorite hidden gems and personal recommendations.

That’s why all locations continue to be carefully handpicked. Every single place featured on Table Tales has actually been visited, tested, and consciously selected.

And there’s much more to come: a growing list of already-tested locations is waiting to be added over the next few weeks.

What started years ago as a small collection of personal recommendations has gradually evolved into something that now feels like a real product — one that, hopefully, is just as enjoyable to use as it was to build.

And even though it’s still far from perfect: from now on, Table Tales will keep getting a little bit better every single week.
